Student Life at Roxbury Latin
Roxbury Latin’s educational program is designed to fulfill the multiple, interwoven objectives of the school’s mission: to develop the intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions of each boy; to teach skills and attitudes essential to rich intellectual and moral lives; and to prepare students to go on to “lead and serve.” While much of that education takes place inside the classroom, an equal part takes place outside of class—in hallways and advisory meetings, on playing fields and stages, in rehearsal rooms and after-school club meetings—as students engage in extracurricular elements of school life, both formal and informal.
Roxbury Latin boys thrive on broad engagement in the life of the school. They move from classes to afternoon athletic practices and games to evening activities—play rehearsals, Model United Nations meetings, layout sessions for the school paper—without missing a beat. RL boys commit their time and talents generously, with little or no need for prodding. These opportunities outside of class offer boys the chance to develop leadership skills, try new things, discover new passions, and forge meaningful relationships with other boys and adults in the school. There are many ways to be a boy at Roxbury Latin. We cherish our boys for their individuality, and we encourage them to develop their fullest selves with confidence.
